The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested an imposter claiming to be a Lt. Col. and Commander of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kachia in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Orndiir Terzungwe, Public Relations Officer, Kaduna state Command of NSCDC, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Monday.
“We received a distress call from our personnel who was on duty at WATCON factory located around Gamji Gate,’’ he said.
Terzungwe said on getting the report, NSCDC personnel visited the scene and got one suspect who gave his name as Obi Gerard, male, 50 years.
“He went to the Chairman of WATCON Company and posed as a Lt. Col. and Commander of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, Kachia.
“Not being clear of the mission of the suspect and the status he claimed, the chairman of the Company invited the NSCDC operative who was on guard.
“The truth about the suspect’s mission was merely to extort money.
“Upon his arrest and interrogation, the suspect confessed that he is a technician whose specialisation is service of filling station dispensing pumps and that he resides at the AYA Quarters in Asokoro, Abuja Municipal Area Council in the FCT.” the spokesman said.
He said after establishing a clear case of impersonation against the suspect, the state commandant, Alhaji Modu Bunu, directed that the suspect be charged to court.
Terzungwe therefore called on members of the public to report any suspected character to security agents for necessary action, assuring that the command is doing its best to reduce response time to emergency situations to the barest minimum.
According to him, the arrest of the suspect is as a result of the timely response to the distress call. (NAN)
