Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. About 25 persons were on Friday killed at Sabon Gari local government  area of Kaduna when a suspected female suicide bomber detonated an explosive device while local government employees assembled for an on-going verification exercise in the state to ascertain the number of workforce under the new administration. Report says many were also injured.

1. Following intelligence report, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has ordered the commencement of special stop and search on Roads and Highways nationwide. He said emphasis must be placed on roads in and out of major cities/towns. This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Deputy Force PRO, CSP Abayomi Shogunle.

3. A member, Board of Directors of Bayelsa Oil Company Limited, Chief Alex Ekiotenne, has resigned from Governor Seriake Dickson-led administration. In his declaration, Ekiotenne said he resigned because Dickson had disappointed Bayelsan people.

4. NEMA has announced that death toll in the Sunday’s Jos bomb blast has risen from 44 to 51. This was disclosed by Mr Mohammed Abdulsalam, the North-Central Coordinator of the Agency.

5. Unconfirmed report has it that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, for alleged money laundering-related offences. Also arrested were his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu in Abuja.

6. Following the Tuesday explosion in Kaduna State, the State governor, Nasir El-Rufai has ordered that beggars and hawkers vacate the streets until proper security measures are taken. According to the directive, any hawker or beggar found henceforth on the street will be arrested.

7. The Federation Account Allocation Committee on Tuesday debunked comments by Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that it approved the withdrawal of $2bn from the Excess Crude Account. The committee, in a statement issued by Forum of Finance Commissioners in Abuja, stated that it does not possess the power to approve withdrawals from the ECA.

8. There was pandemonium in Osogbo the capital of Osun State on Tuesday morning as suspected thugs attacked some protesters and a group of Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun, CSCEO, during a rally in support of the petition by the serving judge of the State High Court, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede on Areggesola’s removal. Report says many were injured in the process.

9. The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced the expulsion of Senator Danjuma Goje, from the party over alleged anti-party activities. This was announced by the State chairman of the party, Magaji Doho.

10. Four companies linked to former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, are to forfeit their assets to the federal government. This follows a judgment by Justice Mohammed Yinusa of the Federal High Court, Lagos yesterday. The four companies are Rainbownet Nigeria Limited, Cosmo FM, Capital City Automobile Nigeria Limited and Renaissance University Teaching Hospital.
