Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. A suicide bomber, Sunday morning detonated a bomb at the Damaturu Sunday Market in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, killing about 19 people, while 47 others were injured.

2. Similarly, at least, 14 people were killed Saturday night, after a female suicide bomber detonated her bomb at a popular night spot in the town of Maroua in northern Cameroun. Report equally has it that several others were injured in the incident.

3. The Nigerian army has released graphic images of the recent killings of many terrorists during a battle along Dikwa-Maiduguri Road in Borno State. The images show a high level of devastating blow done to the insurgents.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an immediate and careful investigation into the chlorine gas explosion in Jos, Plateau State at the weekend, where many were killed and several others injured.

5. The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari would not stop the prosecution of anybody found culpable in the report of the Nigeria Police on the forgery of the Senate Standing Order. This position was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Sunday.

6. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent visit to the United States was fruitless and needless, saying that the trip further shows that his government lacks direction and focus. This was contained in a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh on Sunday.

7. In order to ensure that a reasonable number of Nigerian jambites secure admission into higher institution, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), says it was ready to re-distribute candidates with cut-off marks less than what their first choice of universities required to other institutions that may need them. This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin on Sunday.

8. Report says ahead of the resumption of the nation’s lawmakers for the task of law making, President Muhammadu Buhari will be meeting with members of the House of Representative to look into the leadership crisis among his party members in the House. This is according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

9. INEC National Commissioner, representing South West, Prof. Muritala Akinola Salau, has died. He died at the age of 67 at Turkish Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.

10. The 2015 edition of Big Brother Africa may have been cancelled due to lack of sponsorship. This was disclosed by the Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey on Sunday. Even though Anne said Multi-Choice did not give any particular reason for the cancellation, she believes lack of sponsorship must be responsible for the decision.
