1. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that the 2016 budget be published online immediately. He said such action will allow well-meaning criticism of its policies, its budget and expenditure from Nigerians. The President who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, also said that with such publication, those who have argued that the President was misleading Nigerians through the budget will have nothing to say at the end.
2. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has continued to accuse his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, of wrong doing. This time, he accused Amaechi of allegedly spending the sum of one hundred and fifty million dollars $150m to finance the 2015 elections of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The governor raised the allegation while speaking at a thanksgiving service held at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Rumueprikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
3. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will today picket on the Distribution Company of Nigeria, DISCO, nationwide over the recent 45 percent increase in electricity tariff by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Labour said it will collaborate with civil society groups to protest against the new tariff.
4. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Sunday, faulted the statement issued by the presidency on President Muhammadu Buhari’s sudden vacation, saying the statement was vague. According to him, Nigerians are supposed to know the truth about their President because the President is an open book that every Nigerians should be free to read.
5. The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) on Sunday in Kano, begged the Organised Labour to suspend its Monday protest over the new electricity tariffs. The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy of the association, Mr Sunday Oduntan. The statement urged the unions to support the power sector operators in order to improve electricity supply in the country.
6. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced February 20 as the date for the rerun and supplementary elections for Langtang South, Pankshin South and Plateau North state constituencies. The announcement was made in Jos on Sunday.
7. Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has advised the opposition and to allow him focus on his work for the state, stating that the protracted legal battle that ended at the Supreme Court was a big distraction, hence he should be allowed to focus on the onerous task of rebuilding Abia State instead of dragging him back over incidents of the past.
8. Report says about 10 persons have been killed in a renewed violence between Fulani herdsmen and farmers at Tom-Anyiin and Tom-Ataan communities, Mbaya, Tombu in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State. The report also claimed that the Council Chairman, Godwin Iorsue, the Divisional Police Officer at Buruku, the Area Commander and other stakeholders in the area, on assessment tour of the communities, were ambushed and attacked by the herdsmen.
9. There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari is set to fire some top government officials for allegedly attempting to blow up the 2016 budget by over N1.7trillion. Report claims the officials allegedly smuggled into the budget proposals including vote for Aso Rock Clinic and some communication equipment.
10. Democratic Republic of Congo, Sunday, won for a record of two times the African Nations Championship titles, after they defeated Mali 3-0 in the 2016 final of the competition at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
