1. A former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has given a detailed breakdown on how he spent the N100m he received from ex-National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd). While speaking on his arrest and detention by the EFCC, the former presidential aide in a Facebook post on Sunday said the money was used for official purposes.
2. A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has denied a statement credited to him where he reportedly said that the best thing is to support the current leadership in order to escape all the charges against him. In a post on his Facebook, he vowed not to bow to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, but to continue to criticise the government.
3. The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the compulsory retirements of two judges, Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Lagos, and Justice Olamide Oloyede of Osun State High Court. The NJC, in a statement signed by the Council’s Acting Director of Information, Mr Soji Oye, said the judges were found guilty of professional misconduct at the 77th meeting of the council held on July 15.
4. 54 Engineers working with Nigeria’s first indigenous telecommunication company, Globacom, have been sacked. The company has, however not given any reason for their sack. It was simply stated in their termination letter that their services were no longer needed.
5. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cleared the air on the recent lists forwarded to various tertiary institutions in the country, saying they are candidates that qualified for screening based on institutions’ capacity. The board’s Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, while making the clarification on Sunday in Lagos said they are in no way the admission list.
6. Suspected gunmen, Sunday, abducted the traditional ruler of Iba community, Lagos State, Oba Goriola Oseni – the Oniba of Iba land. Report claimed that a woman, her three-month-old baby, and a businessman were also abducted.
7. Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, yesterday said investigations have begun into the disappearance of many vehicles parked at the Force Headquarters a week to his appointment. He said, the former IGP, Solomon Arase (retd) alone took 24 vehicles, while some of the retired Deputy Inspector-Generals of Police (DIG) also went away with many.
8. Report says the Ministry of Finance on Sunday said it had sent a list of those suspected to be involved in the manipulation of government payroll and allegedly injected ‘ghost’ workers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for investigation and prosecution.
9. The House of Representatives, weekend, said it cannot impeach President Muhammadu Buhari as it had no single evidence of impeachable offences against him. Speaking in Bauchi through the House Chief Whip, Alhaji Alhassan Doguwa, the House insisted that no such issue was contemplated in the House of Representatives.
10. The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop shielding his men from probe. In a latest statement, the governor urged Nigerians to demand the release of the authentic report of the Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
