Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:
1. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the presidency have been cautioned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to desist from attempting to intimidate or harass the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa and the National Assembly Service Commission for their roles in Tuesday’s inauguration of the National Assembly, and for refusing to obey a presidential order to shift the inauguration time.
2. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s stance on non-interference in the election of the National Assembly leadership encouraged him to vie for the Speaker of House of Representatives. The Speaker made this known during a meeting with some party members on Thursday.
3. Following the request by the APC and in its candidate in Rivers State that sensitive materials used in the controversial State’s election be inspected, Justice Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga of the Rivers state Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has granted the requests.
4. Port Harcout Refinery is expected to commence full operation in July, this year. This was disclosed by the General Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Joseph Dawah. The refinery will be contributing about five million litres of petrol daily.
5. June 19 has been fixed for the ruling on bail applications filed by eight bank officials currently enmeshed in N8 billion currency scam. Justice Adeyinka Faji of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan announced the date on Thursday.
6. Two former governors, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state are to appear before the EFCC for questioning over alleged financial crimes. While Lamido will be answering questions bordering on alleged money laundering, Elechi will be quizzed on the alleged mismanagement of the State/Local Government Joint Account.
7. In his determination to tackle Boko Haram insurgency headlong, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday reassured that his government would pay up the $100 million pledged by Nigeria to support the Multi-National Joint Task Force’s (MNJTF). The President gave the assurance during an Extra-Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin.
8. A meeting scheduled to hold between the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the leadership of the APC was Thursday cancelled, thereby increasing the tension in the party. No reason was given for the cancellation.
9. Former governor of Rivers State, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has said it is not true that Engr. Tele Ikuru, who served as his deputy while in office returned billions of naira to him and the state government while in office. He termed Ikuru’s comment as pitiable and shameful.
10. Lagosians will stay off work today to commemorate the annulled June 12 Presidential election which was won by the late Chief MKO Abiola, as the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has declared, today-Friday, June 12 as public holiday.
