Nigerian Newspaper: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things to know this morning. 1. Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and presidential candidate on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Nuhu Ribadu has finally returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ribadu affirmed that he took the decision as “as a loyal party man” after much consultations. The leadership of the ruling party has since welcomed the former EFCC boss back ‘home’.

2. The Court of Appeal has upheld the election of Senator David Mark, representing Benue South at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly. The court trashed the appeal filled before it by Mark’s rival in the February 20 senatorial rerun election in the zone, Dan Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress, declaring Mark winner of the election.

3. The Attorney General and Justice Commissioner in Ondo State, Barrister Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has resigned his appointment. Jegede, who has indicated interest in the November governorship election in the state, said his resignation was to enable him focus more on his desire to seek higher office in service of his people which will obviously demand a lot of energy, time and sacrifice.

4. The Presidency, has through Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla denied detaining Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former National Security Adviser ‘indefinitely.’

Obono-Obla, said that a media propaganda was being staged to “give the impression that the Federal Government has refused to release him on bail’’.

5. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has called on its members worldwide never to give up as the actualization of the Republic of Biafra is in sight. IPOB in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful stated that God is interested in seeing the Republic of Biafra actualized and thus, it would not back out until it comes to pass.

6. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has called on Lagosians to expect more developmental projects in the state in the next six moths. Ambode said his administration was totally committed to the actualization of the various initiatives aimed at making life better, simpler and more prosperous for the people.

He stated this at the opening session of a two-day retreat themed: “Reflect, Reappraise, Restrategise: Raising The Bar Of Governance,” held at the VIP Chalets, Badagry, by the state government for members of the State Executive Council and Body of Permanent Secretaries.

7. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has announced that it recorded 1,447 cases of pipeline vandalism resulting to the loss of millions of litres of products worth billions of naira in 2016 alone.

The NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru, disclosed that in 2015, Nigeria lost 643 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit valued at N51.3 billion through pipeline vandalism alone.

8. The remains of Eunice Olawale, a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who was murdered on Saturday July 19 while preaching, will be laid to rest today. A service of songs was held for her yesterday evening at the Redeemed Christian Church of God Provincial Headquarters, Phase three, Kubwa. Her body would be committed to mother earth at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja this morning.

9. Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has affirmed that no one will shut his mouth from constructively criticizing the All Progressives Congress-led government.

The governor, who was a guest on a personality programme on Fresh FM, Ibadan described the current government led by President Muhammadu Buhari as ‘one chance’, saying that the greatest mistake Nigerians made was to vote APC into power.

10. Kidnappers of the traditional ruler of Iba town, Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos, Oba Yushau Oseni have established contact with the family of the victim, demanding ramson.

The police are currently battling to rescue the 74-year-old first class traditional ruler, who was whisked away from his palace last Saturday at about 8 p.m.
