Niger lawmaker abducted, released

Kidnapping in Nigeria to many is a repugnant to natural justice, equity and good conscience. While others would equally describe it as a cankerworm militating against the progress and unity of the oil-rich Nigeria.

History records the generation and dynasty of kings and not the soldiers that fight wars for kings. The menace of kidnapping in Nigeria has become an unabated war.

On Saturday night, a gang of three heavily armed men reportedly kidnapped Usman Magaji, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Lapai Constituency.

Magaji, who is chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation along was abducted along the Old Airport Road in Minna after returning from a super market.

However, after several calls to their sponsors who were irresponsive, the abductors latter released the lawmaker without any ramsom.

While thanking thanked God for saving his life, Magaji said “but I don’t know what their aims were, but they drove towards Bida road after my realease.

Asked if he was maltrated by his captors, thankful Magaji said for the short while he was in captivity, he was treated nice and that he reported the incident to the police immediately he was released.

Meanwhile the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Richard Oguche  disclosed that efforts are in place to get those suspect arrested.
