The Ondo State command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested no fewer than 30 persons for various drug offences across the state.
The command also hinted that an Indian hemp ware house in Akure, the state capital was identified, while it destroyed an Indian hemp plantation in the city.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Ibrahim Addul who noted that cases of drug abuse were rampant in the state, disclosed that a large plantation of Indian hemp was recently destroyed by NDLEA officials in the state.
According to him, missionary, government and security vehicles were used for conveyance of cannabis sativa in the state.
He said the agency would ensure monitoring of all government vehicles in the state henceforth.
Abdul disclosed that 26 drug offenders were currently serving jail terms in the state while 11 others faced trials in the court.
The NDLEA boss said it had also intensified efforts at curbing the menace of drug abuse among teenagers and youths in the state, noting that a synergy now existed among all security agencies in the state to apprehend all drug offenders.
He disclosed that the agency had destroyed 20 hectres of land with Indian hemp, adding that 19 tones of Indian hemp was also seized by the agency.
While warning drug offenders against sale and consumption of illicit drugs, Abdul stressed that officers of the NDLEA raided the nooks and crannies of the state both in the day and at night, saying that drug offenders had no hidden place in the state.
Abdul stressed that the command would remain committed to the eradication of illicit drugs cultivation and trafficking in the state.
