The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a cripple and six others, following a raid on 12 flash points in Anambra state.
The cripple, Okwunna Oguegbuo, 63, was reportedly caught on September 28 in Obosi, Idemili South local council with 1.5 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa.
Also caught at Ugwuagba Obosi, was Chukwunonso Samuel from Obowo local council of Imo State, who allegedly possessed 4.1 kilogrammes of the same substance.
State Director, Sule Momodu, in a press conference at the NDLEA headquarters in Awka, identified five flash points in Awka area, namely; Awka Stadium, Ifite Awka Market, Amawbia Park, NNPC filling station and Isi Agu.
He disclosed that the agency recovered from the flash points, 7.6 kilograms of cannabis sativa and as well arrested five suspects.
He listed the suspects as, Uchenna Ekeh who was arrested with 200 grammes; Chukwu Nonso Nwafor,100 grammes; David Adimchezo,150 grammes; Miracle Chidiebere, 250 grammes and Sunday Ugbala, 7.19 kilogrammes.
Momodu said the raid will continue since, “when you remove one criminal, tomorrow there will be a replacement”.
It would be recalled that last month, the Director announced that the agency arrests between 10 to 20 illicit drug users every month on the average, saying the state is dangerously sliding to a haven for illicit drug users.
He said then that 26 suspects were arrested in September and illicit drugs weighing 5.8880 kilogrammes were seized.
Out of the said number, he said 24 were male and only two were female. Momodu gave the names of the illicit drugs and their corresponding weight as; 5.876 cannabis sativa; 1.8 kilogrammes of cocaine and 2.2 grams of heroin.
