Two live-in lovers – David Omoregbe and Temisan Bolodeoku – who had been remanded in prison custody since Oct. 2, 2012, are to remain behind bars till Oct. 30, a court said in Lagos on Monday.
A Yaba Magistrates’ Court which gave the order said the prosecution of the accused would depend on a legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Magistrate, Mrs Adekorede Ajibade, adjourned the case to Oct. 30 pending an advice from the DPP on the matter.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trial had suffered eight adjournments without an advice from the DPP.
Omoregbe, 27, and Bolodeoku, 22, were arraigned on Oct. 2, 2012 over alleged murder of Mr Kehinde Owasoyo, a former lover of Bolodeoku.
The prosecutor gave the address of Omoregbe as No. 20, Oworonsoki Road, Lagos, while Bolodeoku had her apartment at No. 56, Kudebu St., Isheri-Osun, also in Lagos.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Godwin Anyanwu had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 23, 2012.
He said the second accused (Bolodeoku), who was a former lover of the deceased, also had a child for him.
Bolodeoku had under the guise of meeting with the deceased to settle a quarrel invited him to her home and herself and the cohabitee killed Owasoyo, Anyanwu added.
“They stabbed him several times with a pair of scissors and dumped his body in a nearby bush on Adeojo Street at Isheri-Osun.’’
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 221 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
NAN also reports that Section 221 provides capital punishment for felons. (NAN)
