Middle-aged man bags 15-year jail term for raping seven-year-old girl

A middle-aged man named Adamu Abdullahi has been sentenced by the Bauchi State High Court presided by over by Justice Rabi Umar, to 15 years imprisonment for allegedly raping a seven year old girl.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Dauda Yakubu arraigned the accused before the court for raping a seven-year old, an offence which contravenes Section 282 of the criminal law and punishable under Section 283 as liable to life imprisonment.

While delivering her judgement, Justice Umar said the accused was found guilty on the ground that his confessional statement agreed with the verbal evidence the victim gave.

The victim in her testimony before the Court said she was lured by Abdullahi into his room, where he forcefully raped her, adding that she sustained an injury on her private part in the process.

The Judge noted that medical examination conducted on the victim, confirms that the injury the minor sustained in her private part was due to the fact that she was raped.

Counsel to the accused, Dahiru Abdulhamid prayed the Court for leniency.

The Justice later convicted the accused to 15 years imprisonment starting from March 5 2012 when he was arraigned and also fined him N3,000.00
