A group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) today attacked and destroyed the trunk line of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in coastal Brass in Bayelsa State.

The group also promised to reduce production Oil in the country by sending all the Oil companies from the Niger Delta away.

MEND confirmed that they were responsible for the recent on the compound of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, at Ogbobagbene in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The militant group accused President Goodluck Jonathan of squandering public funds on tribalistic sycophants and thugs, calling themselves ex-militants, rather than addressing the serious issues facing the nation and its citizens.

MEND, in an online statement yesterday, signed by its Spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, said the attack on the Agip’s facility in Bayelsa state was carried out around 7:30 pm on Saturday.

It noted that the relatively insignificant attack was a reminder of the militant group’s presence in the creeks of the Niger Delta and a sign of things to come.

The Joint Task Force, now codenamed Operation Pulo (Oil) Shield, through its Spokesman, Lt. Col. Timothy Antigha, condemned the MEND’s attack, vowing to deal decisively with the “charlatans.”
