An auto mechanic, Michael Bonoba, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

The prosecutor, Mr Soji Ojaokomo, told the court that Bonoba, 38, resident of Ijegun area of Satelite Town, Lagos, allegedly committed the offence on Jan. 2.

Ojaokomo said the accused lured the girl into his apartment with the intent of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of her.

“The accused threatened the complainant with a knife in order to have sex with her,” he told the court.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 56 and 137 of the Criminal Code, Lagos State, 2011.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for convicted offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused bail for N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adelaja adjourned the case to Feb. 3 for mention. (NAN)
