Man, teenager arraigned for stabbing police officer to death in Lagos

One Seyi Egbonwan, 30, and two teenagers Wale Ojupon and Daniel Emeka, have been charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a police officer , Abimbola Adesoji, to death with a knife.

They were said to have committed the alleged offence on July 25 at Ajah, Ilaje, area of Lagos, during a riot in the community.

Police prosecutor, ASP Eshiet Eshiet, informed the court that the offence contravened Sections 517, 70, 516, 317 and 309 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Oyindamola Ogala, refused to take the plea of the accused persons, saying the court had no jurisdiction in a murder case.

The trio were charged on a seven-count offence of stealing, breach of peace, murder, assault and possession of firearms.

According to the charge, they conspired, kidnapped and killed a constable by stabbing him.

Magistrate Ogala in her ruling, ordered that the accused persons be kept in prison custody in anticipation of advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Vanguard reports.
