Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping friend’s wife in Borno

A Maiduguri High Court in Borno state has sentenced one Baba Ghana Mohammed of Damboa town in Damboa Local Government Area to ten years imprisonment.

Mohammed was found guilty of rape in accordance with section 283 of the penal code.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Registrar of the Court, Barrister Sanda, which was made available to newsmen on Thursday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Justice Alkali Gana Wakil who presided over the case held that the crime of rape had assumed a universal dimension and therefore advised that people should be wary of associates and acquaintances.

The Judge described the convict as “poacher of married women”, adding that his act was reprehensible and callous.

Justice Wakil pointed out that the convict is a friend to the victim’s husband where he acted as best friend and even kept them in his compound, but when his friend left for a journey, the convict forcefully had canal knowledge of his friend’s wife to the extent that he sucked the victim’s breast until it got swollen.
