A 27-year-old bus conductor, Dolapo Olajire, charged with stabbing a man to death after robbing him in his house, was on Wednesday remanded at Ikoyi Prisons, an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled in Lagos.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Salawu, who gave the order, refused to take the plea of the accused on the two-count charge of robbery and murder brought against him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Olajire had no legal representation and no member of his family was present in court.
Salawu said the accused should be kept behind bars pending advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
According to the prosecution, the accused broke into the house of the deceased, Ugochukwu Nwosu, robbed him of his property and thereafter stabbed him to death.
Sgt. Koti Aondahemba told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 1 at about 3.00 a.m. at No. 18, Sikiru Oyekan St., Owutu in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
“The accused broke into the residence of the deceased and was about to cart away his property when the deceased woke up and apprehended him.
“In his escape bid, the accused, who was armed with a knife and a broken bottle stabbed the deceased.”
The offences contravened Sections 221 and 295(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The case has been adjourned to Jan. 3 for DPP’s advice. (NAN)
