Man remanded in prison for raping 14-year-old girl

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old barber, Oluwaseun Ojo in prison custody for allegedly killing his friend, Shola Omotayo while arguing over the taste of noodles.

The Magistrate, Mr Sunday Adedapo, ordered that the accused be remanded in the Olokuta Prisons pending when the court receives legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

Ojo, a resident of No. 10, Familusi Gaga Area of Oke-Aro, Akure, was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder.

Earlier, while testifying before the court, the Prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, said the accused stabbed his friend with broken bottles on the chest and back, while arguing over the taste of noodles cooked by the deceased.

The prosecutor said the action of Ojo led to the death of the deceased who was living with the suspect in the same room.

Adejuwon told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 30 at about 8:00 p.m, at their residence, adding that Ojo’s action contravened Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Ojo’s plea was however not taken as the chief magistrate, Mr Sunday Adedapo noted that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 26.
