Man jailed for killing 86-year-old woman in Ondo

A chief Magistrate Court sitting at Oke-Eda in Akure, the Ondo State capital has remanded a murder suspect at Olokuta Medium Prison pending the outcome of the legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.

The accused person, Adegbehingbe Tope, was alleged to have on 23rd of October, at Ajebanbo Camp, via Oniparaga, Araromi obu in Ondo state, killed one Janet Oyeniyi.

The police told the court that the accused person murdered the 86-year-old woman with machete till she gave up the ghost.

The offence committed was said to be contrary and punishable under section 319 of the criminal Code Cap 37. Vol 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria.

When the charge was read to the accused person challenged the jurisdiction of the court to try him.

While being crossed-examined, the accused person explained that the deceased was his neighbour, saying he committed the act of killing her because he saw the deceased on his dream trying to strangle him to death, adding that when he woke up, he thought that the best thing was to kill her immediately.

In her ruling, Magistrate V.N Bob-Manuel ordered the accused person to be remanded at Olokuta Medium Prison pending the outcome of legal advice from the DPP

She ordered the police to submit the duplicate file to the court for onward transmission to the office of DPP.

The case was consequently adjourned to 9th of December, 2015 for review.
