Man in prison for allegedly raping 3-year-old girl in Lagos

A 24-year-old man, Savior Edith, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a three-year-old daughter of his neighbor.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court that the accused committed the offence on March 23.

“The accused of 19, Ishajimi Street, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, while in his room, called the girl and defiled her.

“It was her cry that alerted her mother and the accused was apprehended,” the prosecutor said, adding that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the accused be remanded at Kirikiri Prison.

Elias adjourned the case till April 20, pending determination of his bail application.
