Man in court for stealing of 600 bags of rice

A 39-year-old unemployed man, Yusuf Adigun, who allegedly stole 600 bags of rice worth N6 million, was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused who resides in Apapa Area of Lagos, is facing a three -count charge of conspiracy, stealing and escaping from police custody.

Adigun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momah, told the court that the accused and some others at large committed the offences on Oct. 15, 2015, at Apapa Wharf, Lagos.

She alleged that the accused broke into the shop of one Adekunbi Fowosere and stole the 600 bags of rice.

“Adigun was apprehended while the others ran way. He was taken into custody; he escaped with handcuffs but was later rearrested,’’ she said.

Momoh said the offences contravened Sections 106 (5) 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mr F. A. Adeeyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Adeeyo adjourned the case till April 4 for trial. (NAN) .
