At least 10 persons were on Tuesday bathed with acid in Mgbakwu community, Awka North Local Government Area following a misunderstanding over a debt.

DailyPost gathered that youths of the community had sent delegates to the home of one Mr. Uche Nnabuchi to summon him over a debt owed another woman in the community.

Mr. Onochie Nzekwe, a spokesman for the youths in the community, told newsmen that the incident occurred when some persons went as a group to invite the man over a N15, 000 debt he owed a woman.

He said that the man, Mr. Uche Nnabuchi, who was to appear before the group to explain why he refused to pay the debt, attacked them.

Nzekwe said that the youths were only working to ensure peace and love for the development of the community.

However, Nnabuchi denied pouring acid on the victims, saying that the acid in his possession was meant for his car.

He also insisted that he owed the woman only N6,000, adding that the incident of the acid was not intentional.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka, who confirmed the incident in Awka on Wednesday, said the police had begun investigation into the matter.
