Man bags two months imprisonment for stealing BlackBerry

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Theophilus Wulangs to two months imprisonment for stealing a BlackBerry cell phone, valued at N65, 000.

The accused who lives at Ademola Adetukunbo Road, Wuse 2 Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the charge of theft.

The judge, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, who handed down the verdict, however gave him an option of N5, 000 fine and to pay compensation of N65, 000 to the complainant.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Simon Emmanuel, told the court that the theft was reported at the Utako Police Station on Jan. 16 by one Victoria John of Karu, Abuja.

Emmanuel said that the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Penal Code.
