Man bags 14 years in prison for stealing N51m

A 45-year-old man, Gbenga Lawal has been convicted to 14-years imprisonment by an Edo Chief Magistrate Court in Oredo, Benin City for stealing over N51m belonging to his employer, Lukas Corporate Business Nigeria Limited.

45-year-old Lawal committed the offence between 2008 and 2010 while he was still in service of the company as a manager.

Gbenga had in 2010 been arraigned on a seven count-charge of stealing and altering purchase books of the company.

While delivering his verdict, the Presiding Magistrate, Frank Idiake found the convict guilty on count two while acquitting him on other charges of stealing 3,484 cartons of medium stout beer worth N11, 877, 807m.

Idiake sentenced Gbenga to seven years jail term with hard labour on each count, adding that the option were without fine and that the sentence is to run concurrently.
