A 40 year old Man, Mr. Francis Ekong has been arraigned in court for allegedly impregnating his 15 year old House Help and denying responsibility at the same time.
Fifteen-year-old Miss Udoh Comfort was at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday, to narrate how the person who was supposed to be her guardian, Mr Francis Ekong, 40-years, devoured her and got her impregnated. The teenage girl had divulged to the court that Mr. Ekong had slept with her thrice since he began the unholy game with her.
Comfort who narrated her own side of the story with her 6 months old baby on her back had told the court that Mr. Ekong had capitalized on the absence of his wife from the house to carry out the distasteful act. She also disclosed how Ekong had threatened to send her back to the village if at any time she was caught with another boy.
The teenage girl who spoke as a witness disclosed that when she discovered that she was pregnant and told Mr. Ekong, he denied responsibility, with the claim that she must have slept with one of her boy friends in the area.
She said she was left to suffer and cater for herself until someone took pity on her and reported the matter to the National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Person and Other Related Matters, NAPTIP. This eventually led to the arrest of Mr. Ekong and the wife.
In a two count charge brought against Mr. Ekong by NAPTIP, Ekong who resides at Mpape Ajugula Street, FCT, Abuja had “on or about May 2010, caused the unlawful carnal knowledge of Miss Udoh Comfort (F) 15 years old of Akasoko, while she was under his custody and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 13(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 as amended.”
Count-2 of the charge indicted both couple and it reads, “That you Mr Francis Ekong (M) 40 years old and Mrs Margaret Ekong (F) 30 years old of Mpape Ajugula Street, FCT, Abuja, sometime in 2008, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, employed Miss Udoh Comfort (f) 15 years old of Akasoko as a domestic help and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 22 (1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 as amended.”
