Kogi: Robbers kill four MOPOL officers during bank raid

Armed robbers on Tuesday shot dead four mobile policemen in Okene, Kogi state.

The policemen were reportedly killed on Tuesday night during an attack on one of the banks in the town by suspected bandits numbering 20, who came in four vehicles.

A number of officers were also injured in the attack.

A statement by the state police command on Wednesday confirmed the robbery attack, but said two of the robbers were also killed during the attack.

Signed by the Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Elvis Aguebor, the command said “The entire area and all other banks in the town have been reinforced, while frantic efforts are on to track down the fleeing hoodlums.”

“Many of them also escaped with gunshot wounds.”

It said the robbery was foiled by policemen from the two adjoining banks.

The statement also appealed to members of the public to report anyone with bullet wounds at the nearest police station.

DAILY POST investigation identifies one of the officers as Ameh Abah from Owukpa in Ogbadibo local government area.

The police assured the people that it had put in place measures to guarantee their safety during and after the festive season.

Three policemen were similarly killed about a week ago during a robbery operation at a bank in Egbe in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.

Commercial banks in Okene have yet to open for business following the robbery attack.
