Kidnap: Rivers Court sentences five men to 8 years in prison

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced five men to eight years imprisonment with hard Lpabour and no option of fine.

Justice Sike Aprioku condemned the five men over the kidnap of the son of the chairman of Rivers state civil service commission, Ugochukwu Onyiri.

The five persons including Uche Ordu, Clement Onaocha, Chukwuladi Osakwe, Friday Alaoma and Chidi Izeogu were convicted after being found guilty of two count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.

Prosecution counsel, Cordelia Eke and counsels to the Convicted individuals commended the judgement.

The condemned persons were said to have kidnapped their victim on the 4th of January, 2008 at about 7:30pm on his way back home with their maid, Dorothy after a visit to their neighbour at ogbugo community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.

They had also demanded for a ransom of three million naira.

Five hundred and ten thousand naira was subsequently paid for the release of the victim after four days in the kidnappers den in the house of Uche Ordu.

DAILY POST reports that the convicts had already spent over seven years in prison before final judgement.
