At least no fewer than 165 people have been confirmed dead in the ancient city of Kano in bomb attacks by the Islamist Boko Haram sects on more than 20 government buildings.
The Spokesperson of the group had declared that Boko Haram was responsibility for the blasts that hit Kano on the 20th of January. Abu Qaqa, said this on phone. Boko Haram has been blamed by authorities in the African region for the several attacks and bombasts in most part of Nigeria. Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is a sin,” has on several occasions claimed responsibility for bombings and attacks in the mainly Muslim north and the capital city of Abuja over the past year.
State of Emergency has been declared by President Goodluck Jonathan in four States in the Northeast region on Dec. 31 and has since set up a special counter terrorism unit within the armed forces to tackle the growing insecurity in Nigeria. The president had vowed to bring terrorism in Nigeria to a halt.
“We will not fold our hands and watch enemies of democracy perpetrate unprecedented evil in our land, and I want to re- assure Nigerians and the international community that all those involved in that dastardly act would be made to face the wrath of the law,” Jonathan said in a statement.
