The Special Task Force responsible for the maintenance of peace and security in Plateau State had on Friday paraded a man who was arrested with 56 bags of Indian hemp and three vehicles.
The incident was made public on Friday by the Spokesman of the STF, Captain Salisu Mustapha, while parading the suspect at the headquarters of the STF, in Jos.
According to him, “On 6th, June, 2013, at about 10:00hours, information got to our patrol base at Rukuba road, that some vehicles loaded with substance suspected to be Indian hemp left Mr. Ali (a suburb near Jos) through Akass village to Rukuba road.
Adding that, on getting the information, the STF immediately setup a checkpoint, on sighting the troops, the three vehicles carrying the Indian hemp, changed their route and entered the bush, but the troops pursued them.
“The suspects abandoned the vehicles and flee. However a driver, by the name, Godwin Ameah was arrested. After interrogation Godwin claimed that he was only called with other three drivers by one Mr. Jerry to carry his load from NEPA in Mr. Ali to Rukuba road at the rate of one thousand naira only.
He further stated that Mr. Jerry and the other three drivers were on the run.
Captain Mustapha further stated that, 56 bags of grasses suspected to be Indian hemp, Dark green Jetta, Black Golf 3, an Ash Vento and Red Golf 3 vehicles were recovered.
The Media Officer said the exhibits and the suspects were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Plateau State Command, for further investigation.
NDLEA Plateau State Command, Ann Nwora, who received the suspect and the recovered vehicles, commended STF’s effort, saying “We have been working in synergy for a very long time, and whenever they make such arrest, they hand them over to us, and we’ve never had any problem with them.
She said, the Command had made so many seizures, and had even prosecuted many who had already been convicted.
