A 25-year old house maid, Tina Kwesi, who allegedly stole her employer’s jewellery worth N50 million was on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Kwesi, who hails from Benue, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 25 at No. 9, Shanti Sule St., Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos State.

Ishaku said that the accused conspired with one other person, still at large, to steal assorted gold jewellery valued at N50 million, property of one Mrs Victoria Sule.

The prosecutor said that the accused was working as a maid in the house of Sule and she had access to where the jewellery were kept.

He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mrs Nina Lawani, Counsel to the accused, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Miss O. O. Fawowe, admitted her to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

She directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused.

The magistrate also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the police.

She adjourned the case to Jan. 19, 2015 for mention.
