The Ogun State Police Command yesterday issued a strong warning to hoteliers across the state not to accommodate thugs all through the electioneering period, threatening that the Command will not hesitate to shut down any hotel found harbouring thugs among guests.
The command’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, issued the warning yesterday in Abeokuta while talking on plans put in place by the police command in the state for a violence free elections.
Adejobi noted that intelligence reports gathered indicates that some politicians used hotels as a camp ground for their thugs from where they are used to unleash mayhem on their opponents and members of the public.
“We have sent signals to those who may want to come to the state, either before, during or post-election periods, to stay away from the state.
“They cannot come to cause any trouble in Ogun State. We have been talking to hoteliers who believe they will be making good money by harbouring these thugs.
“If any hotel in the state is found harbouring criminals, the government will do the needful to make sure the hotel is sealed up, and does not operate for a long time. We have warned them and we are going to have another set of meetings with stakeholders.”
The Command spokesperson also disclosed that other measures taken to prevent political clashes in the state include having series of interactive sessions with political leaders in the state on how to plan their rallies in such a way that different rallies will not be held on the same day in the same town.
“The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC have had their presidential campaign rallies in the state, and there was no incident.
“We have been able to work with political parties and stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to harmonise the schedules of the political parties so that they will not be having rally in a town simultaneously.”
