Renowned herbalists, Danlami Makarfi and Mohammed Inuwa alias Ibrahim have been sentenced to two years imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Isa Mohammed for defrauding Adamu Mohammed of Wunti Street in Bauchi metropolis, of N3.3 million cash and a car worth N2 million.
According to the Police First Information Report, Adamu Mohammed reported to the Zone 12 Police Zonal Command that sometime in February 2009, Danlami Makarfi, Mohammed Inuwa and Alhaji Murtala of Makarfi town in Kaduna State, who is still at large, collected N3.3m and a car worth N 2m on the alleged reason of praying for scale through his many problems, which contravenes Sections 96, 312, and 322 of the Penal Code.
All the accused pleaded guilty to the crime, and the chief magistrate tried them summarily in line with Section 157 of the Penal Code.
While passing his judgment yesterday, Isa Mohammed affirmed, “the accused were arraigned over a three count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating, and since they have pleaded guilty, each one of them is sentenced to six months imprisonment with option of fine of N15,000 on the first count charge, on the second count charge, the accused are sentenced to eight months imprisonment with option of fine of N20,000, and on the third count charge, they are sentenced to 10 months imprisonment with option of fine of N25,000. All the sentences are to run concurrently”.
Mohammed however ordered the suspects to pay N3.3m to the victim, and N10,000 to the prosecution.
