Guard remanded in Ikoyi Prisons over murder of employer

Chief Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Ajunwa of the Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state had on Monday remanded a 27-year-old security guard, Abdullahi Hassan, at the Ikoyi Prisons over the alleged murder of his employer, Azighode Idoko.

Mrs Aje-Ajunwa ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The accused, who resides at his employer’s residence at 8, Ladipo Latinwo Crescent, Lekki Phase I, Lagos, is facing a charge of murder.

The Prosecutor, ASP Etim Nkankuk, said that the offence was committed on June 5 at about 1:30am at the above mentioned address.

Nkankuk said that the accused and others still at large have allegedly strangled Idoko, 27, at midnight in her house.

Nkankuk said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 221 provides a death penalty for convicted offenders.

The case was adjourned to July 17 for mention.
