A 22-year-old security guard was on Wednesday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly siphoning his employer’s diesel valued at N126,500 and filled the tank with water.
The accused, who resides at Agege Area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
But the prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused, Suleiman Yusuf, siphoned the diesel from a tank into 23 plastic jerry cans and filled it with water.
He said the accused with a man still at large committed the offence sometime in June at Oshodi Street, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos.
“When the complainant noticed that the diesel in the tank was mixed with water, he went back to the company that supplied him the diesel and accused it of selling diesel mixed with water.
“The complainant said that the supplier denied the allegation and told them to go and investigate the workers.
“She said when he asked the security guard about the missing diesel, he became very restless and after much pressure, he confessed that he sold the diesel to one Monday, who is now at large,’’ the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr T.O. Shomade, granted the accused a bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Aug. 18 for mention. (NAN)
