Three years after allegedly stealing N40,000 cash and clothing materials worth N16,000 in Owo area of Ondo state, a 63-year-old grandfather, Benjamin Stephen has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Owo Chief Magistrate court in the state.
The prosecuting counsel, Inspector Akomlafe, Joseph told the court that the accused person entered the restaurant of one Mrs. Funmilayo Adewole at the Ikare junction where he committed the offence after she had eaten.
Joseph said the accused person after eating stole the complainant’s money and two different clothing materials of 54 yards and fled since 2010.
He added that the accused was seen at the same place where he committed the offence three years later, and after been identified, the police were invited to arrest him.
When the court’s charge was read, the accused person pleaded guilty as charged.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate; S.O Olowookere, found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.
The Chief Magistrate sentenced the accused to six months imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine.
