A 38-year old suspected fraudster who sneaked into the country to bury his late mother in Imo State, after defrauding a pastor’s wife, has landed himself in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos. PM News reports that the suspect, Bobo Chijioke Dennis, was arrested and charged with fraud before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ejigbo.
It was alleged that Dennis collected N550,000 from Mrs. Ifeoma Okeke, the wife of Pastor Ernest of the Winners Chapel Church, under the false pretence of procuring Quarter Visa for her husband. Instead of procuring the visa for her husband as he promised, he travelled abroad with the visa. Since then, he had been abroad until his mother died recently and he had to return to Nigeria to bury her.
Unknown to the suspect, he and members of his family were being monitored by the victim, who first arrested his sister before he was eventually arrested. According to Ifeoma, Dennis came to their house at 1st Avenue Malmaco Estate, Abaranje, Ikotun and collected the money. She narrated that after collecting the money, he fled and later travelled abroad with the visa she paid him to procure for her husband.
“The whole arrangement failed and my husband became jobless,” she said. After his arrest and arraignment, Dennis said he was ready to settle the matter out of court where he pleaded not guilty. The presiding Magistrate, Mr P.E.Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Dennis was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfil his bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 2 July, 2014.
