Four suspected members of Awawa cult group accused of terrorizing residents of Dopemu and its environs have been arrested by the police.

The suspects were identified as Sherif Nahim, Platelet Ismail, Jamiu Amusa and Abel Babatunde.

It was gathered that they were apprehended around 9:30am following a distress call made by a resident that the cultist were on rampage around Kadiri with dangerous weapons.

The suspects, who were allegedly hiding in the compound, were said to have sustained varying degrees of injustice, The Nation reports.

The state’s public relations officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed their arrest, saying the suspects have been transferred to SARS custody.

According to her, the Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni ordered that the suspects should receive medical treatment while in custody.

She said: “He directed that discreet investigation be done so that other fleeing suspects could be apprehended. The suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

“The command would no longer tolerate any act of impunity and recklessness under any guise of cultism.”
