Four men charged for stealing cocoa sacks in Osun

A Modakeke Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osun State, on Tuesday, arraigned four men who allegedly stole 603 cocoa sacks valued at N102,510. The Prosecutor, Ona Glory, said the accused, Joseph Oyedeji, 40; Ismaila Umoru, 45; Abiodun Oguntoyinbo, 28; and Wasiu Oguntoyinbo, 25, committed the offences at Star-link Global and Ideal Ltd, Orona Street, Modakeke, on Dec. 25 at about 5.30 am.

According to the prosecutor, the accused conspired and stole 603 cocoa sacks valued at N102, 510 at the company and sold same to some unsuspecting buyers, adding that offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun.

The accused, who are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and buying stolen goods, however, pleaded not guilty.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Bonaventure Ibitoye, urged the court to grant them bail on liberal terms, saying they would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bose Awosan, adjourned the case to January 4, 2016 for hearing and granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
