Female banker in court for defrauding employer of N705,950 in Oyo

A 28-year-old female banker, Folashade Lawson, was yesterday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing N705,950 belonging to her employer Seedvest Microfinance bank.

Lawson, who was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Sunday Ojeleye, while testifying in court said the accused committed the offence between July 2013 and March 2014 at the bank located at Okebola area of the State.

Ojeleye said Lawson collected a loan using the bank’s customers’ names, adding that the fraud was discovered by the bank’s examiners during their routine inspection.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 (6) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adebisi, in his ruling, granted Lawson bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum while he adjourned the case till September 9.
