FCT rerun: Police arrest thugs in Kuje

Police officers with the Kuje Division of the FCT on Wednesday arrested four suspected thugs with cutlasses and charms at Wuru poling unit in the Central Ward during the re-run election in areas that the exercise was declared inconclusive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the suspected thugs were arrested with the weapons in their possession when they tried to gain entrance at a polling unit, after several warnings from the security personnel.

The suspects claimed that they were meat sellers from Kuje Main Market who came to witness the voting and not with the intention of harming anybody.

Some party agents who spoke with NAN, said the poling unit had been peaceful and orderly with no record of any electoral malpractice.

The All progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) party agent, Mr Jude Isutuwa, said the suspected thugs did not have the capacity to disrupt the exercise as the polling unit was secured with security operatives.

“The thugs cannot stop the exercise because the security men are prepared for people like them.

“The exercise was gradually coming to an end when the thugs were arrested while trying to gain entrance at the gate,” he said.

Mr Sarki Hassan of APC, said: “We are already winning so no thug or miscreant can stop or change the result.

“All things being equal, APC will win the race,” he said.

Also, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent, Mr Haruna Jatau, told NAN that PDP might emerge victorious at the final collation of the results.

“With God all things are possible; I have faith PDP will emerge winner in the Kuje chairmanship race.
