Fake NDLEA official arrested in Kwara


The Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 37-year-old man, Samuel Yawo, who has been parading himself as a staff of the agency.

The spokesperson for the anti-narcotics agency, Kwara State Command, Mr. Reuben Apea, over the weekend disclosed that the 37-year-old suspect had been parading himself as a staff of the agency for the past three years.

According to Apea, investigation revealed that the suspect has been extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public, using a fake identity card which he procured fraudulently.

Apea noted that the suspect was nabbed by the Jebba Area Command of the agency and has been transferred to the state headquarters.

Confessing to the crime, Yawo who claimed to be from Kaduna State and only completed his secondary school education, said he took to impersonation as a result of hardship.

The NDLEA commander also said the command seized hard drugs worth 1,915,449 kilogrammes between January and May, this year.

He stressed that the command within the period in view has arrested 64 suspects, comprising 54 males and 10 females.

Apea said on June 6, operatives of the State Command intercepted a truck at the Post Office end of the Muritala Mohammed Road, Ilorin at about 12pm conveying 1,076 kg of cannabis sativa packed in 131 bags.

“The activities of drug peddlers have become alarming. They are becoming sophisticated and prevalent among the youth, who erroneously believe the substance to be safe.

“Drug joints are everwhere in the state. Our youths are deeply involved, but the officers and men of the agency are ready to fight and win the war to make the state free of drug merchants,” Apea said.
