fake National Youth Service Corps [NYSC] member, Mrs. Rabiu Umar to six years imprisonment.
The convict in a suit number MAK/0/212C/2014 was arraigned on two count- charge of impersonation and attempted fraud.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Ibrahim told the court that Mrs. Umar was arrested by security operatives at the NYSC Secretariat, Igbatoro road in Akure on July 4 while seeking for redeployment to Ondo State.
The prosecutor said various NYSC identity cards and fake documents were recovered from the convict when she was arrested.
Nigerian Airforce identity card was also recovered from her.
Inspector Ibrahim said investigations conducted by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) of the case, showed that Mrs. Umar did not attend any higher institution either within or outside Nigeria to qualify her for the NYSC programme.
Inspector Ibrahim later tendered all the documents recovered from the convict to the court as exhibits.
Mrs.Umar who was docked for over an hour gave contradictory information about her state of origin when she was crossed examined by the prosecutor.
She said“I am a widow. I am from Borno state, no I am from Lagos state, I mean from Ondo State. I attended National Open University Akure and Ekiti State, College of Education, I dropped out of school when my husband died and when there was nobody to sponsor my education”.
She later pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Adewumi, in his ruling said Mrs. Umar was guilty as charged and sentenced to three years imprisonment for each count. The sentence is to run concurrently.
