Stephen Aji, a police officer, on Friday appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly having forceful sexual intercourse with a 26-year-old woman.

The accused, 29, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and assault with intent to commit rape.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Moses Uademevbo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on January 11, 2016 at Woodward Police Barracks, Railway Compound, Ebute Meta.

Aji, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku ordered the remand of the accused and adjourned the matter till February 18 for ruling on the bail application.

Aji, a former orderly with the Commissioner of Police, Railway Division, assaulted the victim and caused injuries on her waist, neck and leg.

The offences contravened Sections 172(a) and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
