ESUT student arraigned over alleged possession of cocaine

A student of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Gerald Ugwu was on Monday dragged to a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu over alleged possession of cocaine.

Ugwu, who was dragged to the court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was charged for being in possession of 105 grammes of cocaine in his house.

The suspect is facing a two-count charge of being in possession of 105 grammes of cocaine and being in possession of such substance without the authorisation of NDLEA.

According to the prosecutor, Mr Moses Anyaji, Ugwu was arrested in his house at Enugu by some police men and brought to the NDLEA office on July 4, 2012.

Anyaji said that the substance was tested with their substance testing kits and it was confirmed to be cocaine.

He tendered the cocaine before the court as an exhibit. Mr. Patricia Igwebike, counsel to the accused raised no objection.

The presiding Judge, Justice M. L Shuaibu, adjourned the case till May 29 for further hearing.
