Enugu Police arrests fake Nigerian Prisons staff, kill two armed robbers

The police in Enugu State have arrested a suspected fake staff of the Nigerian Prisons Service.

The suspect identified as Anukwocha Kingsley was nabbed along Zik Avenue axis of Uwani Enugu by operatives of the Uwani Police Division during their routine stop and search.

It was gathered that the suspect had claimed to be a prison officer and went ahead to present an identity card to deceive the operatives.

However, upon interrogation, he confessed that he was not a prison officer, even as reportedly revealed that he had been using the fake identity card to beat security checks.

In another development, the Uwani Division had also on Sunday smashed a notorious armed robbery gang terrorizing Uwani and its environs.

The incident happened along Amigbo lane opposite C.I.C gate, Uwani in Enugu South Local Government Area of the State.

The Spokesman of the Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed both incidents to DailyPost disclosed that “the eagle eyed operatives working on information from members of the public on 25/8/13 at about 0630hrs, intercepted a Hyundai Taxi Cab with registration no ENU 33 BX conveying three armed men suspected to be armed robbers and as operatives tried to stop the cab, they jumped out of the cab and fired at the operatives who returned fire thereby wounding two of the suspects and arresting them while one of the suspects escaped with bullet wound.

“The two arrested wounded suspects were however taken to University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Ituku Ozalla for medical attention where they were confirmed dead”.

Amaraizu further stated that some of the items recovered from the gang included a double barrel gun cut to size, three locally made pistols, three live cartridges and two expended cartridges.

He added that “investigations into the incident has commenced as the command is appealing to the members of the public, particularly hospital operators within the state to report promptly to the police about any one with bullet wounds”.
