The Enugu command of the Nigeria police Force has arrested one Ngene Innocent, an alleged member of a notorious car snatching gang operating on tricycle, popularly known as Keke NAPEP. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the arrest said they were apprehended after stealing a Honda Civic car. This is coming at a time Enugu residents are also expressing worries over the spate of robbery being committed with Keke NAPEP in the state. In the press statement issued by Amaraizu, he said the police has “commenced investigations into an alleged incident of car snatching perpetrated with the use of tricycle popurlarly known as KEKE-NAPEP on 15/4/13 around Independence Layout axis of the state at about 1.40pm. “Operatives of the Ogui Division of the state police command had received a distress call bothering on the fact that a Honda Civic car with registration number DS 578 BEN, green in colour was snatched by a group of suspected hoodlums operating with a tricycle popurlarly known as KEKE-NAPEP. “Following the information, the operatives recovered the said car and arresting one of the hoodlums while others escaped”. The PPRO added that “one of the hoodlums identified as Ngene Innocent who claimed to have come from Obeagu Ugwuaji in Enugu state and the driver to the KEKE NAPEP has been nabbed by the operatives of the Independence layout division of the state police command”.
He said the suspect is now helping the police in their investigations.
