Two persons, Vincent Ozioko and Ndubuisi Onyishi, aged 19 and 24 respectively were on Friday arrested by the police in Enugu State for allegedly being in possession of 71 sachets of indian hemp.
The suspects were nabbed at a notorious spot in Edeoballa town of Nsukka local Government Area. This was after an intensive raid, conducted by men of the Nigerian Police from Nsukka division.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed the arrest to Dailypost said one locally made double barrel pistol, two live cartridges, and one battle axe were among the items recovered from the suspects.
He said the Enugu state commissioner of police, Tonye E. Ebitibituwa had directed that a speedy and full investigation be carried out on the matter.
The university community of Nsukka has become notorious for criminal activities in recent times. Within the last two weeks, no less than eight suspected kidnappers and armed robbers have been arrested within the local government.
However, the Chairman of the local council, Hon. Tony Ugwua, in a recent interview said the government was working hard to curtail the activities of kidnappers and other criminals in the area.
