Ebonyi court jails two for vandalizing electricity cables

Two persons, 18-year-old Ndubuisi Ogbonna and Gabriel Chinedu, 21, were Monday, sentenced to various jail terms by a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state for vandalizing cables of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, in the state.

According to the Police prosecutor, Solomon Orond, the duo were arrested on October 19 in Amaechara, Amasiri Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi State, where they committed the alleged crime.

The Prosecutor told the court that the convicts were caught cutting the electricity cables when they were arrested, adding that Chinedu lost one of his fingers and sustained serious injury on his hand following electrocution during the act.

The trial Judge Justice Maureen Oyetenu, found the accused guilty and convicted them accordingly.

While Chinedu bagged a six-year jail term, Ogbonna was jailed for four years.

Oyetenu, however, warned the convits against indulging in such crime in future, ordering that the electricity cables vandalized by the accused be returned to the EEDC office
