Driver remanded for reckless driving in Edo

An Oredo Chief Magistrate’s Court in Benin City, Edo state on Monday remanded in prison custody, one Mr. Sunday Ani, a commuter bus driver, for eight days over dangerous driving.

The reckless driver was also accused of causing damage to two patrol vehicles belonging to the Federal Road Safety Corps,FRSC, along Benin-Ore road on 19 June, 2013.

Ani, while driving his Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, XA 553, GBA, on the Benin–Ore road, dangerously drove his vehicle and in an attempt to evade arrest by the operatives of the FRSC, hit and caused some damage to the patrol vehicles.

The Presiding Magistrate, Fen Igbinosa, who condemned the dangerous conduct of the driver, observed that irresponsible drivers like Ani should be made to face the full wrath of the law for their anti-safety and anti-social behaviour while driving.
