Dismissed police officer jailed 10 years for manslaughter

An Ado-Ekiti High Court on Friday sentenced a dismissed police officer, Sylvanus Ofonbencha to 10-years imprisonment for manslaughter.

The convict was sentenced for killing one Dayo Ojo in 2010.

The Judge, Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi, said by the evidences before him, the accused was guilty of the offence of manslaughter.

The Prosecuting State Counsel, Mr Gbenga Adaramola, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 25, 2010 at Atikankan St., Ado-Ekiti.

He said that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully murdered Dayo Ojo by shooting him with a gun.

Adaramola said that the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code cap. 30, Laws of Ekiti State.(NAN)
